Who We Are
The Alliance consists of physicians' spouses. These spouses are also teachers, nurses, business leaders,
realtors, Ph.Ds's, lawyers, and doctors. We are a diverse group whose link is to be married into the
family of medicine. We are the "roots" or the "heart" of the Kentucky Medical Association Alliance and
the American Medical Association Alliance.
What We Do
Our Bylaws state we are organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes.
Our objectives are:
- To assist the Boyd County Medical Society in its program for the advancement of medicine and public health.
- To do such work as approved by the Medical Society.
- To promote mutual understanding and cultivate friendly relations among physicians' families, that fellowship
may increase and at all times stimulate a feeling of local cooperation.
A lot of our ideas and materials come from the State (KMAA) and National (AMAA) organizations. Some of
our County Programs are as follows:
- Support of our physicians and each other through the phone committee, Holiday Party, Basket Auction,
and meetings that are educational and fun.
- Obesity Prevention at Boyd County Head Start with students and faculty.
- Health literacy (new) education of health providers of ways to decrease communication bariers with patients
who have trouble reading and understanding their prescriptions, handouts, etc.
- Donations to Friends of the Children, Hope's Place, McDowell House, Partners in Pride, and Safe Harbor.
- Basket Auction Fundraiser for AMA Foundation and local Boyd County Medical Society Scholarships.
- Ashland Community College, Dianne Gussler-Lobach Scholarship to a needy female student in health field.
- Community Kitchen Volunteers.
- Legislative Issues - physician liability and tort reform.
